About Me:
ROB ASTOR

Listening to the music of ROB ASTOR is like listening to Instrumental Science Fiction. The titles of his albums (MARSTROPOLIS, BEYOND MARSTROPOLIS, RAHU, AD ASTRA, and BELLATRIX’S MUSIC BOX to name a few) and the tracks on them (“Swimming Between Galaxies”, “Canopusopolis Carina”, “Holographic Nightclub [Dance Of The Boytaurs]”, “Tropic Of Antarctica”, “Forest Of The Black Moon”, “Flight In Ursa Minor”, “Chocotopia”, “Life On Europa”, “Six Moons Of Pluto”, “Earth Twin & Earth Parallel”, “Tiamat”, “Pluto - Bringer Of Change”, “Stairway To The Fifth Dimension”, “Seduction Of The Minotaur”) create instantaneous vivid mental imagery demanding musical explanation and interpretation.

Combining elements of New Age, Ambient, Classical, Electronic, Rock & Roll, Video Game Soundtrack, and New Wave, ROB ASTOR successfully melds the sounds of musical legends (Tangerine Dream, Spencer Nilsen, James Horner, John Williams, Moby, Erik Norlander, Electric Light Orchestra, Duran Duran, Norm Orenstein, Vangelis, Mars Lasar, David Arkenstone) into an sonic tapestry of his own design. Every track comes alive with unique vitality, steering clear of conformity and accepted rules to break ground in unexplored territory.

With every new release, ROB ASTOR creates a soundscape story. At one point, you might find yourself seated in a planetarium watching a show about the universe. In the next instant, you find yourself transported to the destination, spinning between stars, diving through gas clouds, and banking like a roller coaster to sling shot past black holes. From deeply thoughtful and meditative to pulse-pounding; from thundering orchestration to full-throttle velocity, there’s something new awaiting every listener in the next track. Strap yourself in. ROB ASTOR’s music is all about the unforgettable journey.

Progress Report Number 84

Another month has come and gone. So many things to report on! First of all, my grandma had the shunt inserted. She’s doing well. Now it’s a matter of watching the process reverse itself so she’s back to as close to normal as possible. It’s been a long and bumpy ride, to be sure. Some days are filled with absolute insanity, while others are so close to normal, you really couldn’t tell the difference. As for what I’ve been doing musically, here comes the rundown. When I last wrote, my work cente… Continue

Progress Report Number 83

Fortunately, the last few weeks have been much easier in the department of my being able to create. Chalk it up to luck that some music came together through the ups and downs. As for grandma’s health issues, it will be several weeks before the shunt is inserted. At the moment, there are eighteen pages where blogs are maintained. An additional one was canceled when I discovered the code for video formats wasn’t going to work out. On every page compatible with what gets used, the videos for “Tro… Continue

Progress Report Number 82

Hello once again! I have missed you all. There’s so many things going on and it’s time for me to catch you up.

First off, let me tell you about the personal issues causing the delays in my work. Last year, My grandma started having issues with memory and communicating. This set off a battery of tests to see if she had had a stroke, or if something else was happening, either related to age, or possibly not. Right around the end of last year, the doctors discovered she has water on the… Continue

Progress Report Number 81

First off, let me apologize for not posting a blog before now. There are some things happening in my personal life right now that have demanded way more time than I thought they would. By the time a day was over, I didn’t have the energy, mental or physical, to try and tackle anything else. I did manage to get some things accomplished and hopefully, I can resume regular updates.

Way back at the beginning of the month, I took a break to read a book a friend of mine wrote. It’s entitled… Continue

Progress Report Number 80

Although it doesn’t feel like I accomplished much this past week, it wasn’t for lack of trying. Read on and you’ll discover why.

In order to use “Rusty Ruins Of Metropolis” on an official release, one of the things needed was for me to know who wrote the music. With a little luck, I did manage to find out who did the music for the Sega Genesis game Sonic The Hedgehog 2 and Sonic 3D Blast. Next, I’ll need to figure out how to pay royalties considering half of the track is by a Japanese… Continue

Hi Rob

Just got your message to all members of the group collab project about formats but there was no email to reply so leaving a message here. I am not able right now to convert the file for you but I do have a general suggestion.

I would suggest that the Mac .aif format would be best to convert from to .wav format. It is my understanding that (like .wav), .aif is an uncompressed format (whereas there will always be loss of quality working with the compressed .mp3 format).

I'd suggest posting your files in .aif format to the group project forum with an explanation of not being able to get it to .wav and I'm betting one of the other participants will be able to convert for you.

yes indeed i would LOVE to do some collaboration with you, seems that im collaborating all over the place at the moment...maybe i should start a seperate group up on here, purley for collaboration purposes ?

anyway..you're a talented, artist, it would be my pleasure to work with you on a project of some sort, and would be really interesting to move away from my normal techno mad stuff and try something that (for me), would be different.

sorry that i haven't read your most recent 'updates' time once again, and a certain amount of lazyness (it has to be said), has got the better of me, but i m going to read your most recent right now :)
