Yup, gotta be in on this!! What would you like from vocalists? Maybe I'll wait until there's some music there to improvise some voice to and upload some samples from that...

I'd be cool with something like "Jay Malls presents..." as a name. :o)

And it should totally come out on a CD later. Like, give us a year to work on it, and then release the final product in 2009 or something. And build some hype up to then.

About mixing the final 40+ minute mix, there have got to be a number of people here who specialize in just that sort of thing, so we should be able to count on them to handle that. Maybe go so far as to explicitly solicit such designated members. (I'm good for the individual songs, by the way.)

Also, where are we going to load the samples? Do we have some devoted server somewhere?

And have we agreed on a file format? Let me just suggest that we don't use mp3s... I'd like *wav or *ogg.

And a standard filename format that includes the scale. (A minor, E pentatonic, G# symmetrical, et cetera)

Also, do we have any kind of rule, like an artist cannot use his own samples? Or that a single sample may be used in only once? (We don't want the same sample to appear 30 times in the mix, you know.)

Of course, there are bound to be some songs that, awesome though they may be, have no home in the general 40+ minute mix without forcing it and making it sound contrived. (I'd really like to avoid this where possible.) So there should be some other end location for these. Maybe a number of smaller mixes, or even a place for the individual songs.

I will come up with more things to think about, guaranteed. :o)

i'm putting up my hand for a potential "final mixmeister", as I'm a bedroom DJ as well as an artist and I know how tracks should blend into each other. Plus I have heaps of spare time to do it in. However, I think there should be a few potentials, so we can get slightly competitive (which is a good thing), and then maybe have a vote at the end. or something.

for file formats i think it should definitely be .wav

and filenames, in my opinion, don't need to really adhere to any format, as people can change the names of files in a way that suits them and organise their own directory and filename structure in the way that best fits their piece.

however i think it's a good idea to announce as much info about the snippets when we upload them.

anyway that's my two or three cents.

Here's a little riff that just popped into my head as I was surfing this page. The ball is rolling now! :)

I like those loops you have put up hens and gus but I haven't been able to download them. When I right-click on those links and select 'save link as', they come up as htm files instead of the source format. If I try to download them through Quicktime, the program wants me to upgrade to 'pro'. As reconsiderate mentioned, might be a great thing if anyone's got some space to host the sound files in a uniform and easily accessible way?
